Hawaiian Bodywork has its origins in ancient Hawaii where it was performed by the Kahunas (medicine men and women) as part of the initiation rites of new leaders.
Based on the movement of the frigate bird in flight, the work helps reconnect parts of the person that have become disconnected, and frees up areas of blockage and stagnation, be they on a physical or emotional level, so that deep flow within the being can be re-established.
Simultaneously invigorating and nurturing, this full-body oil massage supports vitality, relaxation and self-healing, as a result of which many ailments diminish in severity or disappear entirely.
The work is based on the premise that as we are cared for and honoured exactly as we are, there is the possibility of coming into a deeper contact with our true selves, and the goodness of life.
Vanessa trained in Hawaii with Kahuna Abraham Kawai'i in 1992 and has been practising ever since with a wide variety of client groups. She is a former midwife and is currently training in psychotherapy and somatic movement education.
