FAQs - NLP & Coaching
What is coaching?
In essence it is a powerful alliance designed to forward and enhance
the lifelong process of human learning, effectiveness and fulfilment.
What makes a good coach?
A good coach will be an ethical professional who can establish an
intimate and trusting relationship with you. He/she will be able to be
fully present, conscious and spontaneous.
What kind of tools does a coach use?
Primarily active listening and powerful questions asked directly and easily, designed to raise your awareness.
Does this mean I have to go into all my past?
No, coaching is primarily orientated from the present to the future.
It is designed to facilitate you to gain clarity about the big picture
of your own personal mission and vision in life. And for the smaller
chunks of you daily home and working life to aid you in creating action
plans and behaviours as well as establish well-formed, meaningful goals
chosen by you. Having established the gap between where you are and what
you want coaching is designed to support and assist you by gently but
firmly holding you responsible for your chosen action.
What does coaching not do?
A coach does not give you answers, or impose a formula designed by
others, for others. you are the expert on your life; the coach does not
present himself or herself as an 'Expert' a 'Problem solver' or a
'Healer' . Coaching is not therapy or counselling and does not analyse
the past.
Why might I want to use a coach?
Have you ever wanted more effectiveness in focusing on some of the
most important parts of your life? Would you like help and support in
making major changes in transforming:
- Where you are going in your life.
- The kinds of relationships you want in your life.
- How to enjoy good health and prolong your active life.
- How to bring success and joy into your working life to do more of what you love and love more of what you do.
- Have a plan to start living your dreams now.
I have heard of life coaching but what is an NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) coach?
NLP coaches will have had extensive training in NLP prior to their
coaching training and may have many communication skills that a
conventional life coach may not possess. These skills will make the NLP
coach very effective in noticing ,for example, linguistic patterns,
patterns of thought, structures and beliefs that will operate outside
your own awareness. Using NLP communication skills, your coach may
notice areas where you are getting stuck, and suggest strategies to
overcome mental blocks, and learn how to have more choices about your
reactions to other people and events.
What would I need to get most benefit from coaching?
If you are prepared to commit to taking action, working with a coach
can bring about major positive changes in the areas of your life where
it really matters to you. All you need is the desire to change some
things in your life, be ready to make those changes and be open to
trying something new.
You will get most out of coaching when you are open and honest with
your coach, on time and prepared for your coaching sessions, and can
afford the financial outlay.
Finally you need to be prepared to take responsibility not expecting
the coach to solve problems for you and have the ability to ask for what
you want.
Coaching can help anyone who is wanting to reach a higher level of
performance or satisfaction in one or more areas of their life. A coach
will help you get clear about your aims, and then work with you, in a
one-to-one conversational format, to help you access your full
potential.
